既指整个家庭，也指家人。当family 指家人时，谓语动词描述家人的活动或状况，常用复数。当family 指家庭概念时，谓语动词描述家庭整体情况，常用单数。

e.g. My family are all friendly. 

His family is big. 

Those are my parents.

那是我的父母。

those 那些

that为其单数形式；

它是指空间或时间上较远的人或事物。

parents 意为“父母亲”，等于father and mother；

parent 父亲或母亲，等于father or mother；

parents是parent的复数形式。
